  • Reindex Your Search Language! (All Editions)

Hello Confluence administrators, John here with an important update regarding your Confluence site’s search functionality. We’ve introduced a new capability that allows you to modify the indexing language directly, eliminating the need for assistance from the Atlassian support team.

This change is significant because selecting the correct language as your site’s indexing language dramatically improves the precision of search results for both you and your end users. Previously, users could reindex the search language within Confluence, but this process required support team involvement, which was an inefficient and undesirable experience.

Now, product administrators can access this feature through the General Configuration page at the bottom of the Confluence administration interface. Simply locate the indexing language dropdown, choose your preferred language, and click the ‘save indexing language changes’ button.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

Which Confluence Cloud editions are included in this release?

    Replies/Comments:

[Dave Mathijs]: Any plans to roll out this feature in Jira Cloud?
[Aron Gombas _Midori_]: How about multi-language sites?
[Steve Rhodes]: @Ollie GuanThis *is* for Cloud!
[John Hooper]: Hi@John Hooper(again)I don’t see this on our Confluence Cloud – Should this have been rolled out to all instances already?
EDIT: i see that there’s one day left to have this rolled out to our instance!
[John Hooper]: @Ollie Guan- I’m not aware of a similar release that’s planned by Jira currently@Dave Mathijs

  • Jira Service Management: Initial Experiences

I’m embarking on my journey with Jira Service Management and eager to expand my knowledge within the community. Recently, I initiated its setup to streamline the management of IT tickets for our Internal IT team. An early experience highlighted a minor hiccup: the first individual to submit a request triggered notifications for the remaining 70 team members. While initially disconcerting, the team responded positively, suggesting this was a relatively isolated incident.

Moving forward, I anticipate a considerable amount of configuration and optimization will be required. Fortunately, this platform boasts a supportive community, offering valuable assistance and guidance. I’m optimistic that this will be a smooth transition and a beneficial learning experience.

I look forward to continued engagement and collaboration within this community.

  • Introducing Data Center Community Licenses

I’m Alison Huselid, Head of Product for Data Center at Atlassian. As we previously announced, we’ve developed a solution to meet the needs of charitable non-profit organizations requiring discounted access to our Data Center products. Based on your valuable input, we’re pleased to announce the availability of complimentary Data Center Community subscriptions, encompassing both product and Marketplace applications, starting February 2, 2021.

If you currently hold a server community license, you can request a Data Center Community subscription beginning February 2, 2021. Please note that this offering is specifically designed for charitable non-profit organizations that are non-government, non-academic, non-commercial, and lack religious affiliations. These organizations will need to renew their eligibility annually, mirroring the process for their existing Server Community licenses.

For the interim and for an additional three years, you will continue to receive maintenance and support for your server products, aligning with commercial terms. We appreciate your continued partnership and feedback.

Thank you very much, Atlassian! Our organization appreciates this very much 🙂 These are great news! Thanks a lot,@Alison Huselid! This is great news Atlassian! Necessarily for some organisations. Really important this! Thx for sharing! I’m particularly thankful for this news, especially since it’s Thanksgiving (tomorrow) in the States! 🦃

  • Announcing the General Availability of the Atlassian Rovo MCP Server

We’re thrilled to announce the general availability of the Atlassian Rovo MCP server. This release provides a secure, administrator-managed solution for teams utilizing AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT. The Rovo MCP server enables these AI clients to perform actions within Atlassian products, including Jira, Confluence, and Compass (with Jira Service Management and Bitbucket Cloud planned for future releases). Rather than manually transferring information between AI conversations and Atlassian applications, users can now seamlessly transform dialogues into specifications, plans, and updates, maintaining Atlassian as the central system of record.

The Atlassian Rovo MCP server is our Remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. It acts as an interface, exposing Jira, Confluence, and Compass as structured tools for third-party AI clients. Through an external AI client’s connector gallery, users can connect to the Rovo MCP server, grant necessary scopes, and authenticate using their Atlassian account. They can then leverage tools powered by the Rovo MCP server, including Rovo.

This integration streamlines workflows by eliminating the need for repetitive copy-pasting. Users can directly translate AI-generated conversations into actionable items within their Atlassian systems. This approach ensures data consistency and simplifies collaboration.

We are excited about the potential of this release and look forward to seeing how teams utilize the Atlassian Rovo MCP server to enhance their productivity.

  • Space Permissions | Confluence Access Series

Following our discussion of global permissions, let’s examine space-level access within Confluence. These permissions represent the most common understanding of Confluence access, as they dictate the actions users can perform within the system. Specifically, your capacity to view, create, and manage content, along with adding comments and archiving items, is governed by space-level controls. This article will detail the evolution of these permissions, including the transition from the previous system to the current role-based access controls (RBAC) implementation. Our subsequent post will delve into the new permissions introduced with the RBAC rollout. Space administrators are tasked with managing space-level permissions; however, Confluence administrators retain the capability to assume a Space Admin role if required. Notably, space permissions underwent a significant update in late 2025, shifting from legacy controls to role-based access controls (RBAC). This change eliminated the need for individual permission management.

  • Testing Atlassian’s Audio Narrations 🎧✨

Atlassian recently introduced Audio Briefings, and now they’ve launched Audio Narrations – a new feature that systematically reads each page from beginning to end, word for word. We evaluated this capability across several page configurations and wish to share our findings, particularly concerning accessibility considerations. This represents a significant development with considerable potential, and we’ll explore it further.

A Quick Recap of Audio Briefings Audio Briefings are designed to provide concise summaries of content. During our testing with a brief, fabricated company description, the narration immediately launched into the narrative without introductory context, resulting in a summary that felt more like a fragment than a comprehensive overview. This highlights the continued importance of clear structure, beneficial for both human and artificial readers. A succinct introduction or informational box at the top can substantially aid comprehension for both readers and listeners.

What’s New with Audio Narrations Audio Narrations employ a distinct method. They articulate the page title, the author’s name, and the complete page content sequentially. When a page incorporates columns, the narration continues.

Replies/Comments [Patricia Modispacher (K15t)]: There is an article here! 🙂 But seriously, I have not utilized narrations myself yet; it’s far simpler to examine the content visually rather than listening. I don’t know a single individual (within my network) who employs narration apps (including those from Atlassian, but any others) for professional purposes. [Rustem Shiriiazdanov _Actonic_]: “There is a reply here”: Thanks for your comment, @Rustem Shiriiazdanov _Actonic_! So far, I’m not using this feature frequently.
